Rescue Services Rutland is evolving

RSR Motorsport Safety launches in 2024

Rescue Services Rutland founder Chris Gwilliam started motorsport marshalling in 1973 and then moved into motorsport rescue in 1980 first joining the Silverstone race circuit unit and then setting up his own unit, Platinum Rescue in 1995, adding Cobalt Rescue in 2000. When Chris retired from the RAF after 35+ years he formalised the group by giving it the name Rescue Services Rutland as this was where he and his wife Catherine settled in 2009. By this time the group had grown in size to include several independently owned units to include motorsport Stage Safety Units, Motorsport safety communications units and motorsport recovery units. Drawing from his years of marshalling experience Chris became a recognised MSUK trainer and is heavily involved in First Person on scene (FPoS) and fire marshal training for motorsport clubs up and down the country including British Motorsport Marshals Club (BMMC), and Manx Motor Racing Club on the Isle of Man.

Whilst wishing to retain much of the history and experience collectively gained over the last 50 years in motorsport, members of the group have taken the decision to form the Charitable Incorporated Organisation, RSR Motorsport Safety Registered Charity Number 1205848. This will help maintain the high quality of services that events have come to expect from Chris Gwilliam and RSR and that is expected of the governing bodies involved in the ever-evolving environment of motorsport safety.

• Charity Overview: The charity provides specialised teams and equipment dedicated to ensuring the safety of participants and spectators in high-risk environments whether that be motorsport, equestrian or community related. The charity plays a crucial role in mitigating the impact of accidents and emergencies, providing a rapid response, medical assistance, and vehicle recovery including vehicle extraction.

• Activities - how the charity spends its money: First aid, rescue and recovery services for motorsport (road/stage rallies, sprints, hill climbs endurance and offroad events), equestrian and community events. Training in motorsport communication, rescue and recovery.

Continuity of Services The RSR team will be continuing to develop a new website, Facebook page etc We will keep you all up to date with developments as and when they happen on the current website www.rescueservicesrutland.co.uk which will eventually be redirected to www.rsrmotorsportsafety.org.uk We are working to make these transitions as seamless as possible.
